I can’t believe that a month has passed since I last blogged.
Between work and a new baby, there doesn’t seem time to even just breathe.
Applications have been streaming in and we’re hard at work first dealing with 11 possible Spring transfer students, and then onto the candidates for Fall admissions.
We’re very pleased that our application is online and that we’ve upgraded our technology use considerably here at the UJ. We hope to continue to do more of that.

In the meantime, Baby Clara keeps growing. She’s now getting close to 8lbs. which means I can soon try her in the Baby Bjorn. Very exciting stuff for Daddy! We’ve started to become more adventurous in terms of leaving the house and exposing Clara to the outside world. She’s traveled to Hakata for 2 sushi dinners now, been shopping one afternoon with Mommy and Bubbe, come to her first Tish, the monthly musical Shabbat service that I play and sing in at Beth Shir Sholom, and even made a brief appearance at Bob Packham’s 60th birthday “cootenanny” yesterday.

We think she’s going through a growth spurt now, as her newborn diapers are beginning to get more snug and her desire to feed has reached every 2 hours during the day as opposed to 3 hour increments of the past.

And of course Clara seems to be winning the race of who has the most Chanukah presents on the table waiting to be opened. Go figure.

So that’s the news from here.
Happy Holidays to everyone,
Daddy Matt

I hope everyone had a wonderful Turkey Day; mine was filled with lots of laughter and too much food. I wonder how many more days I can go with just eating leftovers… I will keep you all posted.

Life has been busy in our little Admissions department recently. Everyone has been in and out of the office so much, it is good to have some actual bodies back in their offices. We finally, have Jyllian (the Assistant Director) back in the office after recruiting all over the US the past two months. It is nice to have her back. Thankfully, I can still recognize her.

We have a beautiful new baby, Clara, who is already being trained as an Admissions Ambassador by her Dad, our Director, Matt Davidson. I am sure he will keep you updated on her amazing abilities and talents in his upcoming blogs.

We are getting a steady stream of applications in for Fall 2007 and it is nice to see how unique the students are. I like the diversity among our students and hope that continues to grow over the years. The nice thing is that our NEW scholarship information will be posted very shortly and there are so GREAT opportunities for new students. Check them out!

I cannot believe it is almost December, though we finally have some colder weather in sunny Southern California (and by colder, I mean low 60′s). Where does the time go? I am sure everyone is getting ready for finals, or at least, getting ready for a well deserved vacation. I definitely have to start doing some holiday shopping or everyone will get handmade macaroni necklaces.

Enjoy the last few days of November….. see you in December.

Good Morning (or afternoon if you are not on the west coast).

It is another lovely day during the Fall recruiting season and all I really want to do is take a nap
at my desk. I do think that people might notice as they walk by my office and see me face down on a bunch of files and paperwork.

I think paper clip indents on one’s cheek to be very endearing.

Tonight I am off to a private school fair locally, and tomorrow morning I get to schlep to Long Beach (literally sitting in a car for three hours during morning traffic, even though the school is only 40 miles from my house) for a morning fair at a community college and an evening fair for the unified school district. Busy, busy week as usual.

Hopefully I will get to talk with some cool students, if not, people watching is my second option and BOY can that be fun.

Hello all!
steff.jpg
My name is Steffanie Friedman and I am a junior at the University of Judaism. I have been attending here since my freshman year and love it! I am a big fan of the small class sizes and the one on one attention I get from all of my teachers. I also like that whenever I have a problem I can go to any of the administration and they try to help as much as they can.

don’t get me wrong UJ was not my first choice. I didn’t even think about attending here until my mom pointed out that the UJ had an undergraduate program. I applied to all of my first choices and also applied to UJ. After applying I emailed and asked for a tour. The next week I was scheduled and went to visit the campus. I had seen the campus before but not all of it, I definitely had not seen the dorm rooms before. The was a huge selling point. I can’t even describe what they look like like but after seeing the UCLA dorm rooms there was no comparison! We only had to share with one other person and had our own bathroom and shower INSIDE the room!!

So after I got into UCLA and UCSD and UJ, I didn’t even think I would have a hard time deciding what school to attend, but I did. After weighing all the pros and cons UJ was the place for me and I have not regretted my decision yet. I loved the small classes and the dorms!!

So now I am here and will update my life here every week to let you get to know the UJ on a student level! Feel free to ask me any questions! Thanks for listening and have a great week!!

Welcome to my blog. For those of you that don’t know me I am the Director of
Undergraduate Admissions at the UJ. I am also going to be a new Dad any day now as my wife’s due date is about a week away. I will be blogging once a week or so to let you know what goes on in the life of an Admissions Director and so you can laugh at all the trials and tribulations I go through as a first-time father. I hope you enjoy. Stay tuned for the big news….
-Matt
